Inside the old penny arcade.

Your kids can see what penny arcades were like before vidio games took over. They have a unique collection of working antique mechanical games, music boxes, and player pianos. The large music boxes on the left were out way before the nicklelodians that played old 78 rpm records. These boxes used paper rolls, like the player piano does.

Back of Museum

Don't bring your pennys when you come here, they have raised the prices so they can afford to operate the museum and keep the machines in working order.

Small penny arcade machines.

I believe that most of these machines came from Playland when it was in operation. For more information about Playland go to my Home Page and select my Carrousel Page.

Also inside the museum you will see displays telling about the history of San Francisco. You can also see photos of damage the earthquakes have done to San Francisco.

Pay to play piano. This isn't just a a player piano, it is a pay to play piano and they could be found in bars where people drank. They wound provied entertainment to the customers if they wanted to pay for it, just like juke Boxes today.

Laffing Sal This is Laffing Sal as she was called when she was above the old funhouse at Playland by the Beach. They closed several years ago but Sal is still laffing her heart out as she bends over while doing it.
